STOP HB 699 – All Students Belong in General Education!
🗓 Hearing Date: Monday, February 3, 2025, at 10:15 AM
📍 Location: Legislative Office Building (LOB), Room 205-207
Dear ABLE NH Members,
We need your help to stop HB 699, a bill that could push students with disabilities out of general education classrooms and take away important services. All students receiving special education are general education students first—they should get the help they need without being separated from their peers.
Here’s what this bill does:
❌ Removes the definition of “functionally blind,” which could take away key supports for students with visual impairments.
❌ Redefines “educational environment” to mean only special education placements, ignoring federal law that says students should be included in all school activities—classrooms, lunchrooms, clubs, and sports.
❌ Eliminates “related services,” which could put important supports like speech therapy, counseling, and transportation at risk.
These changes weaken protections for students with disabilities, make it easier to separate them from their peers, and limit access to the services they need to succeed.
