Plenty of Reasons to Vote NO on Question 2

Wolfeboro & Tuftonboro Democrats October 16, 2026 2 minutes read
Question 2: is it baloney?

Anita Burroughs on Question 2:

If you listen to the marketing from New Hampshire House Republicans, you might think HB 1300 will cut your property taxes.

Will it cut your property tax bill? Not necessarily, and certainly not as the advertising suggests.

Read Anita’s article here: https://frontrowseatnh.substack.com/p/will-the-nh-school-tax-cap-lower?

Here’s an extensive and well researched article from Bedford NH Democrats: protectnhschools.com  with many reasons to Vote No, including:

1. Give every child a real chance
When state politicians shortchange public schools, the costs do not disappear—they get taken out of classrooms. Question 2 could mean fewer teachers, larger classes, and cuts to arts, music, AP courses, job training, buses, and after-school programs that students and families rely on.

2. Keep education decisions in your hands
Parents and local voters—not politicians in Concord—should decide what their schools need and what their communities can afford. Question 2 would take that local control away.
3. Protect your property value
Strong public schools help keep neighborhoods desirable and home values strong. Deep school cuts could put the home you worked hard to afford at risk.
4. No one can explain Question 2
Three different rules are packed into one yes or no vote. The ballot says the cap is “for a two-year period,” but the law itself doesn’t say that anywhere. If the people who wrote it can’t explain it, you shouldn’t have to guess.

5. Stand against the attacks on public education
Your tax dollars should pay for qualified teachers, safe classrooms, and strong reading, math, and career programs—not private-school subsidies while neighborhood schools go without.

Steve Marchand has done a series of articles and podcasts on Question 2 and other education funding issues. Check it all out here.
